Renting a Boat at Walt Disney World

Setting Sail

You’ve been on the Seven Seas Lagoon on a ferry boat I’m sure, but what if you could pilot your own pontoon boat on the lagoon? There is a way!

For a rate of $45 per half-hour, you can rent from most marinas that have these pontoon boats. This is a unique experience that most don’t know about! I myself was able to do this last year, and got some really great shots of the Magic Kingdom and other areas of Seven Seas Lagoon. These resorts in the Magic Kingdom area have marinas you can rent, but there are others.

Here is a complete list:
– Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
– Disney’s Beach Club Resort
– Disney’s Beach Club Villas
– Disney’s Contemporary Resort
– Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
– Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
– The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

The guidelines for renting a pontoon are simple:

  • Reservations are not required.
  • Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Guests must be 18 years of age or over and will need to present a valid driver’s license, state-issued ID or Military ID to rent a boat.
  • Onboard smoking is not permitted.
  • Complimentary life jackets must be worn for all Guests under 12.
  • During peak times of the year, only Resort hotel Guests or Guests with dining or recreation reservations may be allowed to enter the Resort hotel area to park.

Tips

For me, 30 minutes was enough to go around the lagoon, over to Wilderness Lodge, back to the lagoon again and back to the marina dock. If you wanted to do the full hour, you’d have more time, but you don’t necessarily need it. They do stop taking guests around 5pm as they have Fireworks Cruises to prepare for if you’re doing a Magic Kingdom Resort. I recommend that if you want to do this, to be at the marina by 2pm, so you have plenty of time to see everything.
